Thank you for your interest in training at our dojo. The information on this page should hopefully provide all you need to know about training here but please use the contact page for any further questions and we would really appreciate if you would let us know if you are planning to join the lessons prior to coming along (as training sessions are planned in advance).
Karate training is quite technical and needs a certain level of commitment to get to a basic level. For that reason, as a new joiner, we would recommend you be prepared to commit to training twice a week (even if you cannot always get along to every session - we appreciate that everyone has busy lives).
At the moment our training charges are £25.00 per month for the first 3-months, rising to £40.00 per month thereafter. This covers all regular training sessions and in club gradings. As a new joiner your first few lessons are free to give you a chance to see if karate training is right for you. There are no contracts to sign, simply pay by bank transfer to the club account.
Kyu gradings (coloured belts - yellow, orange, green, brown) are held in the club when people are ready to grade. Dan gradings (black belt) are held at formal JKF Wadokai training camps, where candidates are assessed by a panel of registered examiners.
Any sportswear or loose clothing is fine for your first few lessons. We train in barefeet and please remove any jewelry before training. Karate suits (a 'dogi' or 'keikogi') can be bought from either large sports goods stores or from specialist suppliers, with prices ranging from £30 for lightweight beginner suits up to £200 or more for made to measure suits. We can provide a list of suppliers.
